MEET OSAMA ALFAID
Osama AlFaid is a prolific graphic designer and photographer who also interestingly holds an interest in music and art. “I’m a dreamer and ambitious,” Osama told Fekr, his progressive career started back in 2008; now he’s a freelance graphic designer and impressively owns a streetwear brand, “Alhashya”. Being Libyan himself, the designer uses his creative platform to create a mode of work that incorporates part of his culture into modern art.
Like many kids, Osama had his first computer as a child. Little did he know, his computer would help spark an interest in the media. “Since I was young, I used to draw a lot and make hand works so when I got my first computer I started this journey and discovered all kinds of media”. Many factors from Osama's childhood have also been integrated into his work, he would often travel to the south of Libya as he was passing through the Libyan desert. “ I have a love for Libyan art, Libyan culture, and the desert since childhood, and that has a great impact on my work now.”
Osama told Fekr that his favorite piece was “The Arab Heritage Journey”. This recent piece has numerous details that include both aspects of the desert and classic Arabic rugs. The purpose of the mixture of Arabic elements is to take oneself to a world of nostalgia of middle eastern traditions.
A change that Osama would like to see happen in the industry is more opportunities for creators that could subsequently give them the confidence that they may need to put into their work. An issue in the industry, however, is stealing ideas and content as well as the lack of verified brands to collaborate with. The designer did, however, luckily, find the time to collaborate with multiple artists and companies and work on multiple experiments and projects especially during the past few months with the current pandemic situation. Osama also mentioned that the best advice he would give would be, “Work on yourself, improve your work, and don’t stop trying.”
