MEET ABDULLAH ALTHUKAIR
Abdullah AlThukair is a young conceptual photographer who has the ability to translate his thoughts and feelings into works of art. He describes himself as an individual who composes conceptual photography to express his ideas. His interest in art began in elementary school over a direct disagreement with his father on whether or not Abdullah could get a portable PlayStation. He was given a camera instead, and little did he know it leads to something much bigger.
Abdullah favorite piece is “Fitnah/فِتنة” (shown above) which he says was inspired by the idea of leaving for college and learning to become more independent making new relationships, the new sense of freedom and the responsibility that came with it. “It will always be one of my favorites because I believe the concept behind it will constantly be relevant,” the artist told Fekr, “Apples or fruits, in general, have always been a symbol of evil wrapped in good [fitnah]; The picture shows the “apple” exposing itself by melting after it got rotten, which is something real apples don’t do.”
During these troubling times with the COVID-19 outbreak, Abdullah admits that it has played a role in allowing oneself to struggle when trying to get inspired with all the free time and “lack of ease of mind”. However, as an artist, Abdullah admits that he was luckily able to find a healthy balance and create multiple artworks that the art community can’t wait to see.
Lastly, when asked if he could give any advice to his younger self” who just got into the creative world he said, “every idea is worth giving a shot, it may not be fully developed in your mind until you start on it. Be out more, connect with other artists, and learn from them. Accept the fact that not everyone will see the art in what you are making.”
