In this feature, we are celebrating the wonderful and renowned Ahaad AlAmoudi, a visual artist who would describe herself, and her work, as playful, strict, and loud. After an interview we conducted with Ahaad, we got to know the talented artist a little bit better. By being brought up by a family of creatives and artists, Ahaad was surrounded by art growing up, hence the start of her passion and interest in the art world.

With contemporary art being the most prominent aspect of Ahaad’s work, you can truly see the depth and meaning in her pieces. What we mostly appreciate here at Fekr, is not necessarily how the artwork turns out to look like, but the time and effort the artist has put in creating this piece, and Ahaad is one of those artists. In her most recent works, Heat Burns, which was displayed at Athr Gallery, you can see just that. Our favorite piece would be Makwah Man (2020), a three-channel video, which is dominated by the color yellow and an iron, which is symbolized as “a tool for action, creating change through heat and pressure”, as stated in her Athr catalog, which was curated by Amal Khalaf.

As she told Fekr, Ahaad’s main inspiration for her artwork is everything around her, such as family, friends, and communities. Which is shown widely in her work. Additionally, the art world is always progressing, with changes happening now and then, but Ahaad believes the most important change that needs to happen is to have more inclusion and transparency in the art world, which is truly an issue I believe we could all agree on.
